Skill Levels & River Gradings
Waterways are commonly graded to help paddlers choose routes that match their experience:
- Grade I (Easy) – Smooth water with minimal obstructions; ideal for first-time kayakers and families.
- Grade II (Novice) – Small waves and gentle current; suitable once you’ve mastered basic paddle strokes and steering.
- Grade III (Intermediate) – Moderate rapids requiring quick manoeuvring; recommended for paddlers confident in bracing and ferrying.
- Grade IV+ (Advanced) – Intense, technical rapids with powerful currents; only for experienced kayakers with proper safety gear.
Note: Always check local conditions, water levels and weather before heading out.
