Frequently Asked Questions
Absolutely! The area is entirely private for you and your group to enjoy together. For those wanting to camp, you can set up at the nearby Plateau Campgrounds (next to the Riverview Wild Spa). Because the campground is situated on a cliff edge, it is strictly an adults-only zone. Children and pets are not permitted.
Once your hot tub has reached the desired temperature, make use of the coiled firepit and campfire grill. To enjoy cooking over a wood-fired flame, you will just need to bring:
1) Your esky full of food and drinks
2) Your preferred cooking utensils
The area includes tree stump chairs, but if you prefer your own relaxing camp chair, feel free to bring it along.
You can easily drive and park right at the Riverview Wild Spa, but if you like to camp nearby, we have three beautiful options just a stone throw away:
Rapids Campground (60m away): Perfect for 4WDs, swags, and roof-top tents. Claim your front-row seat to the Clarence River and wake up to the sound of flowing rapids. (Remote camping—please bring your own water and toilet).
Plateau Campground (60m away): For those seeking something elevated and dramatic.
Please note: Because of the nearby cliff edge, this is an adults-only site, and we do not permit children or pets at this location. (Remote camping—please bring your own water and toilet).
Casuarina Campground (179m away): A short walk down a scenic track brings you to this freshly restored hideaway near the cattle yards. Wake up to black cockatoos singing in the casuarina trees. (Remote camping—please bring your own water and toilet).
Note for remote sites: Potable water and a dump point are easily accessible at our main facilities. Come experience camping the way nature intended.
The fire is the control lever to our FireTub… no fire; no circulation/ heating.
Therefore once you are at or close to your desired temperature simply stop adding wood to the fire coil. As the fire degrades and dies down so too will the circulating flow. As this flow slows the mechanism of heat transfer will also slow and stop resulting in no further temperature gain.
The recommended FireTub temperature is 36-40 degrees Celsius. The FireTub comes with a temperature gauge so you can monitor the temperature during the heating phase.
It uses a natural, pump-free process called a thermal siphon. When you light a fire inside the fire coil, it heats the water inside. Since hot water rises, it flows out the top of the coil and into the tub.
This naturally pulls cold water from the bottom of the tub into the bottom of the coil to be heated. This continuous cycle effortlessly circulates and warms your tub as long as the fire is burning! As it heats, please use the provided paddle to mix the water regularly for a consistent and comfortable soak.
Yes, children can absolutely enjoy the outdoor FireTub experience, but it is the user’s responsibility to actively manage the natural hazards of fire and water. However this area is an Adults Only area so no children are allowed. If you have under 18yrs children please see management for request of access.
⚠️ SCALDING HAZARD: Please be aware that the top port—where the heated water flows back into the tub—becomes extremely hot. Both adults and children must be careful not to touch or block this water exit, as severe scalding can occur.
⚠️ WATER SAFETY WARNING: Children have drowned in portable swimming pools, baths, and spas.
1) Ensure active adult supervision at all times.
2) Do not leave children unsupervised in or around the tub.
3) Keep children within arm’s reach at all times.
4) Empty the water and secure the tub safely after each use.
Adults-only note: Plateau Campgrounds and Riverview Wild Spa area are adjacent to a dangerous cliffside edge. This means this is an adults-only area and we do not recommend children or pets near Plateau Campgrounds or at the Riverview Wild Spa for safety reasons.
It typically takes 1.5 to 2 hours to reach a relaxing 38°C (starting from a cool 12°C).
To heat it efficiently, make sure you keep the insulated cover on to stop heat from escaping. Your actual heating time will depend on the season\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s starting water temperature and how often you feed the fire.
🔥 Safety Note: The FireTub can get very hot. Once the water feels close to your perfect temperature, hold off on adding more wood so it doesn\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'t overheat.
On average, the sauna takes about 45 to 60 minutes to reach an ideal temperature (usually between 70°C and 80°C). This can vary depending on the weather and the starting temperature. To heat it efficiently, keep the sauna door completely closed while the fire is building.
Just like the FireTub, the fire is your temperature dial!
To heat it up: Add a few logs to the stove to keep a steady, active flame.
To cool it down: Stop adding wood and let the fire die down. You can also open the sauna door for a few moments to let fresh air in.
Yes! Pouring water on the hot rocks creates a beautiful wave of steam and instantly raises the perceived heat (a traditional practice).
How to do it: Use the provided ladle to gently pour a small amount of fresh water over the rocks.
Safety Warning: The steam produced is extremely hot. Keep your hands and face well clear of the rocks when pouring to avoid severe steam burns. Please only use the clean water provided—never use soapy water, river water, or essential oils directly on the rocks.
We recommend wearing standard swimwear, undergarments, undergarments & sarong or towel.
Please bring:
Two towels: One to sit on inside the sauna (this is required for hygiene and to protect the timber) and one to dry off afterward.
Drinking water: You will sweat a lot! Bring plenty of drinking water to stay hydrated before, during, and after your session.
Saunas place stress on the cardiovascular system. Please follow these safety guidelines:
Medical conditions: Do not use the sauna if you are pregnant, have heart conditions, high blood pressure, or are feeling unwell. Consult a doctor if you are unsure.
Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water. Do not consume alcohol before or during your sauna session.
Time limits: We recommend limiting your sessions to 10–15 minutes at a time. Step out, cool down, and rehydrate before going back in.
Adults Only: Because the Riverview Wild Spa area is located near a dangerous cliffside edge, this is an adults-only facility. Children and pets are not recommended.
As part of the hands-on experience, we ask that you leave the sauna clean and neat for the next phase.
Stop the fire: Simply stop adding wood and allow the fire to die down naturally.
Wipe down 1: Use your towel to wipe away any excess sweat or moisture from the timber benches.
Wipe down 2: Use the provided spray and cloths to wipe the timber benches.
Air it out: Leave the sauna door slightly ajar so the space can ventilate and dry out.
Cool off between your hot sessions by taking a short walk down to the river for a natural plunge.
Refresh: The extreme hot-to-cold contrast boosts your immune system and strengthens blood vessels.
Recharge: After your plunge, sit outside in the fresh air and take deep breaths to replenish your oxygen.
⚠️ Health Warning: Cold plunging shocks the body. Do not attempt the cold river plunge if you have high blood pressure or cardiovascular conditions.
A quick tip: (Please wear slip-on shoes or sandals for the short walk down to the river).
The sauna is not intended for use in athletic competitions. You may try to show how strong and in shape you are by outlasting your colleagues or other people in there, but if this is your goal, you won’t be able to relax, and even worse, it’s not safe. The sauna should be comfortable and relaxing.
Wearing a Banya hat can really improve your whole Banya experience because there are several benefits to wearing a Banya hat. First and foremost, it protects your head! When you are inside the room, the head heats up faster than the rest of your body, as it is more exposed to the heat. A Banya hat acts as a layer of insulation, helping to keep your cooler and prevent your head from overheating.
This is very important, obviously, as the point of your visit to the Banya is to improve your health and not hinder it! When your head heats up faster than the rest of your body it can leave you feeling dizzy or even nauseous. Wearing a hat helps prevent this from happening and you will find that this improves your Banya experience overall.
Also, consider that heat rises, so the area highest on your body (your head) is most exposed to the heat. A Banya hat helps to level the playing field with the rest of your body.
The more you acclimatize to the heat; wearing a Banya hat helps this process and allows you to adapt faster.
The Banya hat also protects your ears and hair. A Banya hat is excellent protection for the top of the ears keeping them nicely insulated from the heat and protects your hair. Some people find that the heat from Banya (especially a dry sauna) can make their hair dryer and more brittle. Wearing a hat can prevent this and keeps your hair in great condition that it already in.
Accessories such as earrings, bracelets, necklaces, rings, and even glasses and watches should be taken off before entering a sauna. Saunas reach extremely high temperatures, causing jewellery to get hot with the potential of even causing burns to the skin.
Cleaning up after your soak is quick and easy! Just follow these four simple steps:
1) Drain the water: Locate the drain exit and hose at the back of the tub to empty the water.
2) Bucket the residue: Use the small bucket provided to scoop out any leftover water sitting at the bottom.
3) Wipe it down: Using the provided cleaning spray and cloth, give the inside of the tub and the mixing paddle a thorough wipe down.
4) Cover it up: Place the insulated cover securely back on the tub to keep it clean and protected.
As part of the hands-on experience, we ask that you leave the sauna clean and neat for the next phase.

2) Wipe down 1: Use your towel to wipe away any excess sweat or moisture from the timber benches.
